The experts will tell you that we must mon- itor our habits that reinforce our energetic self. Sleep well. Eat smart. Exercise away stress. We all agree those are imperative. In addition, I believe we have to set time aside to ground ourselves and center our focus. Taking time for a devotional in your office before the day begins may seem counter- productive, but for me it quiets the nega- tivity from the day before. The platform created in that few minutes introduces a positive perspective, and the positive en- ergy opens the door for solutions. We must choose to be intentional about leading a team and a culture that is sup- portive and energizing. Select and promote team leaders that share the passion, the vi- sion, and bring their own personal brand of energy to the team. Listen to our team members. One size leadership does not fit all. Some people may like being teased and motivated with light banter. Others may find this style intrusive and prefer being left to the task. By listening to our team members, we can understand what moti- vates them to be dynamic and caring, as well as professional. As leaders, we are expected to lead and guide our team to reach the goals and ex- pectations of the job. We need to under- stand when to lead and when to step back to give them their opportunity to develop leadership initiative and team manage- ment skills. It takes a lot of energy for all of us to achieve leadership goals. In the age of social media, we some- times miss the needed personal link in the professional relationships with our team and the impact of positive energy those opportunities provide. If we can continue promoting our vision and supporting our culture with enthusi- asm, we can create a space of hope and possibility. We must continue to prepare mentally, and never waver from the belief that the obstacles we have in our field are surmountable. With the combination of passion and energy, we can create a more positive atmosphere conducive to quality, compassionate, healthcare for the people of our community. n
