54 NOV / DEC 2018 I  Healthcare Journal of LITTLE ROCK Our plan for growth includes building upon key services like our heart program and our oncology program, investing in our behavioral health services, and developing our Mother Baby program in Hot Springs. We are also quickly approaching a major milestone in the advancement of our pre- eminent Arkansas Neuroscience Institute (ANI). Over one year ago, we set a plan in motion to reshape the future of healthcare in Arkansas and beyond by creating a des- tination neuroscience institute unlike any other in the region. Under the leadership of world-renowned surgeon Dr. Ali Krisht, who stands among the Top 1 percent of neurosurgeons in the nation, ANI today performs more than 1,000 intricate surgeries each year. That means impacting and significantly improving 1,000 lives each year with best-in-class care, but we soon realized that we would exceed our capacity at the main CHI St. Vincent infir- mary campus. To fulfill this fundamental need within or community in the most efficient man- ner possible, better serve our patients, and manage our existing resources best, we de- cided to leverage our underutilized facilities at CHI St. Vincent’s North campus. That is where we have been working diligently this past year to develop the new ANI, a world- class resource befitting the world’s finest neurosurgeons caring for Arkansans. ANI will also focus on improving treat- ment outcomes and ground-breaking ad- vancements in the field of neuroscience, including the development of advanced techniques in areas such as the cavernous sinus. Neurosurgeons and residents travel to Little Rock from around the world to par- ticipate in cavernous sinus training courses, including tumor removal, with Dr. Krisht, one of only three surgeons in the world who perform this delicate, complex surgery. He column neurology Changing the Future of Neuroscience As CHI St. Vincent celebrates 130 years of ministry to Arkansans, building upon those original commitments by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Little Rock and the Sisters of Mercy in Hot Springs, we are once again look- ing to the future. The nature of the health care industry is changing, as are the needs of our patients, so we are investing nearly $70 million over the next three years to grow our ministry and expand the range and depth of health care resources available to our community.
