Dr. Kossidas Konstantinos joins the team of cardiologists at the CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute. Kossidas specializes in cardiac electrophysiology and is now seeing patients at CHI St. Vincent Heart Clinic Arkansas,  10100 Kanis Road in Little Rock.

For the third consecutive year, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has been recognized as a high performer by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP).

UAMS is one of only 54 such high-performing organizations in the U.S. recognized by AHP. High performers represent the organizations in the top 25 percentile for net production returns, and collectively they raised $12.4 million in the U.S. last year.

Science Café Little Rock, co-sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will hold its next public forum, Bones: Makem or Breakem, on Nov. 27. Panelists will explain how bones are formed, broken and repaired, as well as discuss factors that affect bone health and strength.

Science Café will be from 7-9 p.m. at Hibernia Irish Tavern, 9700 N. Rodney Parham Road. No reservations are needed, but seating is limited. Admission is free.

Data released by the CDC last week showed that e-cigarette use has increased 80% in the last year. Arkansas’s rate of e-cigarette use by high school students was 13.7% in 2017 and is estimated to approach the national rate of 20.8% in 2018.

These high rates of use among minors occur even though the sale of e-cigarettes is banned in Arkansas to those under 18, including in vape shops. E-cigarettes are also banned from use on state higher-education campuses.

A children’s board book created, designed, and published by the Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) Injury Prevention Center has been recognized as a global model for injury prevention education, receiving a silver award from the International Safety Media Awards at the Safety 2018 World Conference in Bangkok.
