Science Café Little Rock, co-sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will hold its next public forum, The Science of Shock, on Oct. 23. Panelists will discuss the various types of shock that can result from physical injury, heart attack, allergic reaction, severe infection and more.

Science Café will be from 7-9 p.m. at Hibernia Irish Tavern, 9700 N. Rodney Parham Road.

The Arkansas Department of Health, Healthy Active Arkansas and the Arkansas State Fair have joined together to create Nursing Nooks at the 2018 Arkansas State Fair.

 There will be a Nursing Nook near the main food court and a location at the Kiddie Land section of the park to provide a safe, quiet environment for mothers to breastfeed their babies.

David Bumpass, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), was named one of the nation’s outstanding young spine care providers by the North American Spine Society’s SpineLine magazine in its inaugural “20 Under 40” list honoring spine professionals under the age of 40.

Methodist Family Health, a statewide continuum of care for Arkansas children and families struggling with psychiatric, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual difficulties will dedicate a new psychiatric residential treatment center at the United Methodist Children’s Home, the oldest campus within Methodist Family Health. The event takes place Oct. 16 at 2002 South Fillmore St. in Little Rock.

The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received $3.29 million from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for a five-year project to reduce obesity, increase physical activity and improve nutrition in Arkansas, especially in the Delta.
