A coalition of organizations in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi will use a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to promote improved and equitable health and economic outcomes in the Mississippi Delta regions of those states, the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) recently announced.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received a $5.5 million supplemental award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to fund training and outreach programs in rural and underserved areas of the state.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency in the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded the money under its Value-Based Medical Student Education Grant. The supplemental funding brings UAMS’ fiscal-year award to $6.6 million and raises the overall grant award to nearly $19.6 million over four years.

Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia recently implemented an enhanced, state-of-the-art MRI technology for patients called Philips Ambition 1.5T Helium Free Operations MRI.

“This MRI is able to provide precise and quicker imaging results, all for the benefit of our patients in Clark County,” said Jay Quebedeaux, president of Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia. “With its enhanced features, the Philips Ambition 1.5T is also improving patient outcomes through a higher level of safety and reliability.”
