The Arkansas Department of Health Minority Health Commission (AMHC) will host its State of Minority Health from 6-8:30 p.m. on April 20.

“The State of Minority Health Post Covid – Reflecting on the Past, Preparing for the Future” will be a virtual event featuring a panel of state and national leaders. It will be live-streamed from the William J. Clinton Library and Museum in Little Rock.

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University (NYITCOM at A-State) is now accepting applications for Project H.E.A.R.T., the college’s “mini-medical school” program for high school students which will be held in June in both Jonesboro and Arkadelphia.

Thanks to a generous gift from an anonymous donor, NYITCOM at A-State is offering sessions on both the Arkansas State University and Henderson State University campuses this summer.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a $1.8 million grant to Fang Zheng, PhD, an associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), to continue research that could lead to new treatments for epilepsy and other neurological diseases.

The NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke awarded Zheng’s lab $385,995 on March 1, which is to be followed by annual awards of $372,745 for each of the following four years, for a total of $1,876,975 over five years.
