Matthew Sharum, MD, recently joined Mercy Fort Smith as an ear, nose, and throat specialist. He began seeing patients in July at Mercy Clinic Ear, Nose, and Throat – Tower West and at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older. The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12-15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.

Two physicians from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will speak Aug. 25 on the safety of COVID-19 vaccines during pregnancy.

Nirvana Manning, MD, and Robert Hopkins Jr., MD, will present Safety of COVID-19 Vaccines and Pregnancy at noon, Aug. 25 on Zoom. There will be a Q&A session at the end of their presentation. Joseph Sanford, MD, director of the UAMS Institute for Digital Health & Innovation, will act as the moderator.
