A new technology that uses sonic waves to blast calcium deposits out of arteries is now available at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The treatment option for advanced heart disease debuted in central Arkansas on June 16 when UAMS cardiologist Subhi Al’Aref, MD, used it to successfully open and clear a patient’s severely calcified stent.

Washington Regional Medical Center has been recognized as the number one hospital in Arkansas in the newly released U.S. News & World Report 2021-22 Best Hospitals list. The ratings evaluate how well hospitals perform across 17 common procedures and conditions and recognize excellence in providing a variety of types of medical care for adult patients.

Conway Regional Health System announced that effective Aug. 8, 2021, it will require its leadership team, including executive leadership, directors, and managers, along with new hires to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.     

All leaders receiving a two-shot series will receive the second dose by the end of August. All new hires receiving a two-shot series will be required to get the second dose of the vaccine within 30 days of employment.

Nabil Cameron, APRN, recently joined Washington Regional’s Walker Heart Institute Cardiovascular Clinic where she provides care to patients with heart rhythm abnormalities.

Cameron earned a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arkansas.

The Arkansas Hospice Foundation has been awarded a challenge grant of $100,000 by the Windgate Foundation designated for unrestricted program support for Arkansas Hospice. The funds will assist in operational costs to provide excellence in hospice and palliative care at a time of critical need to many individuals and their families in Arkansas.
