President Donald Trump’s freeze on $8 billion of congressionally appropriated funding to the National Institutes of Health was illegal, the Government Accountability Office reported Tuesday.

Orders Trump signed in the early days of his return to office and related administration directives violated the Impoundment Control Act by failing to spend money that Congress, which holds the power of the purse under the Constitution, had approved, the GAO report said.

Richard B. Chastain, MD, joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as a family medicine physician at the UAMS Health Family Medical Center in Fayetteville. 

Chastain is an alumnus of the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus’s family medicine residency program.

CJ Uzick recently joined Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock as vice president of hospital operations.

Uzick holds a Master of Health Administration from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Arkansas. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Two studies led by researchers from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) spotlight the daily struggles of food-insecure Arkansans and offer new insights into community driven solutions to address hunger in one of the nation’s most food-insecure states.

The research, conducted through UAMS’s Institute for Community Health Innovation, reveals the profound effects of food insecurity on communities and explores the impact of pilot programs tailored to the cultural needs of Hispanic and Marshallese communities.
