In front of a backdrop of the Arkansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol, Arkansas Hospice formally announced that it has earned two distinctions in recognition of providing outstanding care for veterans.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) recently became the first medical institution in the state to join the National Institutes of Health StrokeNet, which will make new potential treatments available for patients with stroke and those at risk for stroke.
NIH StrokeNet is made up of 25 regional centers across the United States and involves more than 200 hospitals in conducting small and large clinical trials and research studies to advance stroke treatment, stroke prevention, and recovery and rehabilitation following a stroke.
Kindred Healthcare, LLC and Mercy announced that they have signed a definitive agreement and created a joint venture to construct and operate a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital.
Groundbreaking is expected in the fall, subject to regulatory and other approvals, with construction expected to take 12 to 13 months. A location is being determined for the facility, projected to be 49,000 square feet and cost $23 million.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Youth Services (DYS) shuttered the Dermott Juvenile Treatment Center in southeast Arkansas as part of a plan to safely reduce the number of residential facilities it operates for court-involved youth.
