The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Aging, Adult, and Behavioral Health Services (DAABHS) has renewed its contract with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to continue administering the Special Nutrition Program (SNP) lunch program for adolescents living at the Arkansas State Hospital in Little Rock.

As part of the contract, DAABHS is required to notify the media of its partnership with USDA. The division has participated in the program since 1999.

Dr. Suzanne Yee in Little Rock, Ark., announced the addition of Emsculpt, a non-invasive body shaping procedure that simultaneously addresses both muscle and fat. This dual treatment addresses physiological distinctions currently excluded from other procedures, such as muscle, helping fit individuals with a lower BMI seeking improvement in muscle and fat in hard to target areas.

Northwest Health has just launched the state’s first activities connected to Northwest Arkansas’ ThinkFirst Chapter, an initiative by the National Injury Prevention Foundation designed to help prevent brain and spinal cord injuries, among other traumatic injuries. Traumatic injury is a leading cause of death and disability among children, teens, and adults.

Degrees or certificates were awarded to 864 graduates of the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) five colleges and graduate school on May 18 during a commencement ceremony at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.

Degrees or certificates were presented to 165 in the College of Medicine, 229 in the College of Nursing, 111 in the College of Pharmacy, 64 in the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health, 271 in the College of Health Professions, and 30 in the Graduate School.

To help Arkansans learn how to survive stroke, the Arkansas Travelers are making May 23 “Strike Out Stroke Night” in partnership with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) stroke program.

A helicopter will bring Sanjeeva Onteddu, MD, a UAMS stroke neurologist, to North Little Rock’s Dickey-Stephens Park to deliver baseballs for the game’s first-pitch ceremony.
