CARTI will promote the early detection of lung cancer with Saturday screening events at its Russellville, Pine Bluff, and Little Rock locations in November. By expanding access to low-dose CT scans, CARTI aims to improve lung cancer patients’ survival rates by diagnosing the disease sooner when it’s more likely to be cured.
“Arkansas has made steady progress in improving our early diagnosis rate of lung cancer, but we can do even more with low-dose CT scans,” said Donald Norwood, MD, CARTI’s medical director of imaging services. “That’s why we’re encouraging eligible Arkansans to consider making an appointment for a healthy lung screening. It’s safe, easy and saves lives.”
Appointments for CARTI’s healthy lung screenings, available from 9-11 a.m. at the following locations, are expected to last approximately 15 minutes, including registration paperwork.
-Saturday, November 4: 209 South Portland Avenue in Russellville
-Saturday, November 11: 5001 Bobo Road in Pine Bluff
-Saturday, November 18: 8901 CARTI Way in Little Rock
The scans are recommended for those at the greatest risk of developing lung cancer but who haven’t yet shown signs or symptoms of the disease, including current or former smokers 50 to 77 years old and individuals with a smoking history of at least 20 pack years who are generally in good health with no history of lung cancer. Those interested in scheduling an appointment may call (501) 906-4454 or visit CARTI.com.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Arkansas. According to the American Lung Association, the state’s five-year survival rate is currently at 21%, significantly lower than the national rate of 25%. A National Institute of Health study shows low-dose CT scans could help reduce lung cancer deaths by 20%.
