NYITCOM – Arkansas’ King Selected for AACOM Health Policy Internship

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine - Arkansas Student Doctor Tyler King has been selected to participate in the 2020 Osteopathic Health Policy Internship Program in Washington, D.C. The program is led by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), and King was one of three student doctors chosen from a competitive pool of applicants from across the country.

“We are extremely proud of Student Doctor King and congratulate him on this well-deserved honor,” said Shane Speights, DO, campus dean of NYITCOM – Arkansas.  “It’s incredibly important for aspiring physicians to become involved in health policy, and we’re delighted that Student Doctor King will have this unique opportunity to do so while representing NYITCOM in Washington.”

The OHPI Program enables osteopathic medical students to spend two months in Washington, D.C., in AACOM’s Office of Government Relations on Capitol Hill. The objective of the program is to afford selected student interns the opportunity to develop an understanding and operational knowledge of how federal health and education policy is developed and how to effectively influence public policy.

Through the program, participants attend key hearings and briefings on Capitol Hill pertaining to federal healthcare and higher education policy, conduct research and increase understanding of federal healthcare and higher education policy topics that impact osteopathic medical education, and present on an advocacy topic as determined and finalized with AACOM Government Relations.
