In front of a backdrop of the Arkansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol, Arkansas Hospice formally announced that it has earned two distinctions in recognition of providing outstanding care for veterans.
The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s We Honor Veterans team (WHV) has named Arkansas Hospice a Level 5 Partner. Arkansas Hospice is one of only nine inaugural Level 5 partners in the nation, and the only hospice care provider in the state to be granted this status. Level 5 is the highest level WHV partners can attain. Aside from existing requirements for Levels 1-4, Level 5 will ensure that partners place a greater emphasis on staff education and caring for Vietnam-era and combat veterans. Additionally, as a Level 5 partner, Arkansas Hospice will be taking on the role of regional mentor to other WHV partners working to enhance their programs.
Arkansas Hospice was awarded Level 5 status in part due to the manner in which the care provider addresses the unique healthcare needs of veterans, both physical and emotional, including the psychological toll of war and how it impacts their end-of-life journey. Examples of enhanced care include veteran patients being paired with volunteers who have also served their country and share a unique and honorable bond. Arkansas Hospice also recognizes the military service of veterans with special pinning ceremonies and awards on a regular basis across its 43-county service area.
Arkansas Hospice has also been accepted as a Commemorative Partner by the Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemoration for demonstrating activities that recognize Vietnam veterans and their families’ service, valor, and sacrifice.
As a partner in the program, Arkansas Hospice will be conducting veteran-centric events or activities that recognize Vietnam veterans and their families’ service and sacrifice.
