Vascular Neurologist José Miguel Morales, MD, Joins UAMS

José Miguel Morales, MD, MSc, a vascular neurologist and neuro-interventional surgeon, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine Department of Neurology.

Morales comes to UAMS from the Pacific Neuroscience Institute in Santa Monica, California.

“Dr. Morales is a neurovascular interventionalist, researcher and innovator who specializes in minimally invasive, image-guided techniques to diagnose and treat disorders and diseases of the head, brain, neck and spine,” said Rohit Dhall, MD, chair of the Department of Neurology.

After completing graduate studies in neuroscience at Imperial College London, Morales attended The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he earned a medical degree in 2016. He then completed a neurology residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, also in Chicago, followed by three fellowships at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center.

His fellowships were in vascular neurology, biodesign, and interventional neurology.

He is board-certified in both neurology and vascular neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In addition to clinical care, Morales is involved in clinical and translational research, including work pioneering transvascular access to the brain that eliminates the need for invasive brain surgery. His research has been published in the journals Nature, Stroke, Interventional Neuroradiology and the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, among others. He was among a few select faculty invited to collaborate on a consensus paper on cerebral venous disorders for neuro-venous disorders.

Morales sees patients in the Neurology Clinic on the second floor of the UAMS Jackson T. Stephens Spine and Neurosciences Institute at 501 Jack Stephens Drive.
