New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine - Arkansas – in collaboration with UAMS, St. Bernards Medical Center and Arkansas State University – will host free health screenings in Marked Tree and Walnut Ridge this week.

The Marked Tree event will take place on July 23 at the Marked Tree Library from 3:30-6:30 p.m.  The library is located at 102 Locust Street. On July 24, the NYITCOM team will be at the Lawrence County Library (115 W. Walnut Street) from 3-6 p.m.

Dr. Maxine C. “Seales” Kasangana recently joined Baptist Health Specialty Clinic-North Little Rock as an infectious diseases specialist.

Seales has more than 10 years of experience in medicine. She most recently served as section chief of infectious diseases at Essentia Health hospital in Duluth, Minn., and in various committee roles at that hospital.

A first-of-its-kind entrepreneurship training program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will teach its most promising young innovators how to move their health-science technologies into the marketplace.

The UAMS Translational Research Institute kicked off the program with the announcement of its first four postdoctoral trainees in the Health Science Innovation & Entrepreneurship (HSIE) Postdoctoral Scholars Program.

CHI St. Vincent hosted Arkansas State Police Drug Director Kirk R. Lane to discuss the state of Arkansas’ opioid epidemic with medical staff on July 19. Lane’s presentation, entitled “Arkansas Opidemic,” emphasized that the opioid problem in Arkansas is among the worst in the country and far more endemic than many believe. He also highlighted to role medical professionals must play to help address this challenge.
