The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) announced that it will receive $40 million in congressional appropriations for a variety of programs, including several targeting Arkansas’ high rates of infant and maternal mortality.

The funds, which were included in the appropriations legislation signed into law by President Donald Trump on Feb. 3, were championed by Arkansas’ U.S. Sen. John Boozman.

Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock announced the appointment of Kimberly Young, PharmD, MHA, BCSCP, as assistant vice president of hospital and pharmacy operations. The appointment follows an interim period in the role.

A free, public lecture entitled “Discoveries Impacting on Survival of Children with Brain Cancer” will be held Feb. 19 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The lecture by pediatric neurosurgeon James T. Rutka, MD, PhD, a professor at the University of Toronto, will begin at 5 p.m. on the 12th floor of the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute on the UAMS campus. A reception will follow.

Fellowship-trained, board-certified radiation oncologist Sondos Alkhatib, MD, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology in the UAMS College of Medicine.

Alkhatib specializes in the treatment of gynecologic and breast cancers. She is certified by the American Board of Radiology and the Jordanian Board of Radiation Oncology.

LifeTouch Health has appointed Nikki Taylor, APRN-FNP-C, HEC-C, CADDCT, as vice president and chief clinical officer. Taylor replaced Anita Deal, RN, who recently retired.

In this role, Taylor will provide clinical and strategic leadership across LifeTouch Health’s service lines.
