North Hills Surgery Center in Fayetteville is temporarily suspending operations, effective March 20 for two weeks. Procedures done at North Hills Surgery Center are non-urgent, elective procedures for conditions that are not life threatening. This temporary closure is an effort to reduce non-urgent patient visits in the region and decrease community exposure to Coronavirus (COVID-19) while also preserving resources, supplies, and staffing that might be needed elsewhere.
Conway Regional Health System will welcome four family medicine residents to the inaugural class of their Family Medicine Residency Program, which will begin on July 1, 2020. Residents include Dylan Cruz, Olufadejimi “Jimmy” Kareem, MD, Ross Lenzen, and Clayton Preston.
Ninety-six percent of the College of Medicine graduating medical students who participated March 20 in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) were placed into residency programs, where they will continue their specialty medical training for the next three to seven years.
Myeloma expert Fenghuang “Frank” Zhan, MD, PhD, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as research director of the Myeloma Center.
Zhan was most recently a professor of medicine at the University of Iowa and an adjunct professor with the University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics.
Zhan, who is also a professor of medicine in the UAMS College of Medicine, was previously at the UAMS Myeloma Center from 2002 to 2008, as an assistant professor in the College of Medicine.
The Arkansas Health Care Association and Arkansas Assisted Living Association (AHCA/AALA) recently awarded its 2019 Administrator of the Year award to Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Administrator Amber Strom. The facility is a 100-bed residential nursing and rehabilitation center serving the city, Pope County, and surrounding areas.
