Northeast Arkansas continues to have an ongoing hepatitis A (hep A) outbreak. Hep A is a contagious liver disease that can be prevented by a vaccination. The ADH is warning of a possible hep A exposure after an employee of Arkansas State University (ASU) food service and volunteer at Salvation Army has tested positive for the virus.

People with frequent and recurring pain from an amputated leg are being enrolled in a University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) research study of a device designed to reduce amputation pain.
Led at UAMS by Erika Petersen, MD, a neurosurgeon and researcher, the study is part of a clinical trial being conducted at sites across the United States.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) recently announced $7,784,751 in funding to Arkansas through the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program. These grant funds allow the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) to continue to provide home visiting services to women during pregnancy and to parents with young children up to kindergarten entry.

The Jacksonville Health Unit, the City of Jacksonville, Pulaski County Community Services, and the Arkansas Department of Health recently hosted the Grand Reopening of the Jacksonville Health Unit, located at 3000 N. First Street.
The ribbon cutting ceremony included speeches from Mayor Gary Fletcher, ADH Center Director for Local Public Health Don Adams, and Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde. A tour of the new facilities followed the ceremony.
